QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES – After organizing two seasons of digital rally races called the Digital Rally Trophy, the Automobile Association Philippines Motorsport Department (AAP Motorsport) is now launching the first national-level digital rally series in the Philippines. The AAP National Digital Rally Championship has officially started its season today, November 10, 2021, with qualifiers for the first round opened to registered participants on 5PM.
The previous format was born with the intent of honoring two golden periods of Philippine rallying, reacting to the need to continue motorsport activities despite the threat of the pandemic situation, while also attracting new blood in the rally discipline. The Digital Rally Championship builds on the previous seasons while also providing a more difficult challenge to participants, fielding them in some of the fastest machinery to tackle some of the toughest challenges that the DiRT Rally 2.0 video game has to offer.
Another innovation is the issuance of the very first AAP Competition Licenses for Digital Motorsport. All Filipino participants to the Digital Rally Championship will be issued a non-fungible “e-license” for free, with option for a physical license card for a fee.
An international invitational digital rally event will also form the fourth and final leg of the Digital Rally Championship. This is meant to relieve the glorious days of the Mabuhay International Rally, where foreign rally teams battled it out with the local racing community in some of the Philippines’ greatest special stages. Albeit in digital format, the fourth leg will continue this lost tradition by inviting foreign racers from the Asia-Pacific region to compete with the best Filipino rallyists in a livestream event.
The overall winners of the Digital Rally Championship will be classified as the first ever Philippine national digital motorsport champions, honored alongside the champions of other AAP-recognized disciplines at the 2021 Annual Motor Sport Awards.
“While following a similar format as our previous season, we believe that the AAP National Digital Rally Championship will be more of a challenge to our determined young rally aspirants, by testing them in difficult rally stages in varied vehicle types and drivetrains,” said Ivan Isada, AAP Motorsport Manager. “The mix of international drivers will also show the talent of our Filipino racers, by showing their skills to be of world-caliber.”
The first leg will be held this Sunday, November 14, 6PM, live-streamed on the Automobile Association Philippines, AAP Motorsport, and at the Dominado E-Motorsports: Rally Facebook pages. Qualifiers end on 12NN on the same day.
As of press time, there are already 32 registered participants competing to be the first ever Philippine Digital Motorsport champion. Joining the event is free, and is open to drivers of all ages with a PC or PS4 and the DiRT Rally 2.0 video game. Registration can be done in the following link: https://forms.gle/wBr8nE9hH3zm8Whh8
